REVIEWS:

'I am not an I'

Paul Bamlett (Evening Standard) 2008:
‘This deeply funny and strangely gripping new play by Stephen M Hunt features a strong cast… Emma Fletcher’s Gina grows in stature as the play progresses… This is unique and curiously moving piece of theatre and a truly memorable night out.’

Rebecca Banks (Ham & High) 2008:
'Both women (Hildegard Neil & Emma Fletcher) are powerless and controlled and both give as good as they get… There are some excellent actors in this production.'

Tim Jeeves (Extra! Extra!) 2008:
'The standout performance comes from Ben Onwukwe… the rest of the cast are all very competent.'

Time Out Reviews:
Posted by Henry A Winkler on 13 Oct 2008:
'Fletcher's portrayal of Gina's angst is convincing and honest. She gives a heartfelt performance...'

Posted by Jeffrey Richards on 26 Sep 2008:
'Excellent performances by a superb cast.'

Posted by Caryn Cobersy on 14 Sep 2008:
'Acting was superb. I take my hat off to Ben Onwukwe for his magnificent portrayal of the mad doctor and to Emma Fletcher for her outstanding performance of the heartfelt Gina, with whom most women can at some point in their lives empathise with.'

Posted by Mike Evans on 12 Sep 2008:
'Great fun, entirely unexpected story, superb acting.'

Posted by Philip Clark on 11 Sep 2008:
'Well, what a pleasant surprise! Great performances... Overall a good laugh, with a number of twists and turns that kept most of us (well me) guessing right to the end. Oh and good value too - 2 Royal Shakespeare Company actors for Ł13.00 instead of West End prices.
Highly recommended.'

Posted by Michael McGrath on 11 Sep 2008:
'Impressive acting, theatrically enthralling, hilarious! I loved it! "I Am Not An I" written and directed by Stephen Hunt must be applauded - there is an exciting blend of smart satire and much wittiness. That boorish Italian spirit was brilliantly conveyed and Hildegard's magical ability in engaging the audience was magnificent. I particularly enjoyed the emotional rollercoaster between the strong-minded and gritty 'Gina' (Emma Fletcher) and bored 'Barry' (Robert Wainwright). This exhilarating comedy clearly grabbed the attention of the audience from the off - fringe theatre at its best!'

Posted by Grant Hutchinson on 11 Sep 2008:
'Very, very witty with some surprising 'twists and turns' this play really enthralled me. With Ben Onwukwe as an obnoxious Italian and the wonderfull Hildergard Neil as a quick witted American tourist. Emma Fletcher and Robert Wainwright play a young couple who really dont see eye to eye who become entangled in a super plot with the Italian and the American. A great night at the fringe,do go and see it.'

Posted by Samuel Hosler on 11 Sep 2008:
'What a refreshing change to find a funny, entirely original story that grips from beginning to end. I'm going again!'

Sebastian Melmott (Remotegoat) 2008:
'Emma Fletcher's character is the only one with any compassion...'

'Mad tigers and bears':

Ewen Moore (Co-founder and editor of Hearsay Magazine and former theatre and music editor of Creative Week newspaper) 2008:
'Mad Tigers and Bears is a new play by Stephen M Hunt. It was performed as a rehearsed reading at the intimate Brockley Jack Theatre for one night only but, on the strength of this performance, a full production is surely waiting in the wings...
Intercut with this is the drama of a young couple, Gina and Barry,(Emma Fletcher and Rob Wainwright) who are obviously falling badly out of love. As they twist knives into each other, the electricity and tension between them crackles with an almost tangible menace. Emma Fletcher makes Gina's impulsive lust for life utterly delicious - you practically want to run off with her yourself.'

'And then they came for me - remembering the world of Anne Frank':

John Bird (Founder of The Big Issue) 2008:
'I recommend you go and see it... this version of the play is the sharpest I have seen to date.'

Rachel Harvey (independent reviewer for Remotegoat) 2008:
'Catherine Robey gives a convincing and brave performance, together with Emma Fletcher as her mother, no easy task for an actor.'

'The Muddy Pool':

Fay Weldon (novelist - speaking after a performance) 2007:
'The play was a roller-coaster of emotions, swapping from highs to lows in a very short space of time, which is a very difficult thing for any actor to carry off but all the actors managed to carry this off extremely well.'

'Longmill Performer of the Year in association with The London Palladium':

Don Black 1998:
'These are the musical faces of tomorrow. It was heartening to see such an array of talent.'

Wembley Observer 1998:
'Emma sang a dramatic self-penned show-opener.'

Suzanne Baum (Jewish Chronicle) 1998:
'Setting the standard for the night, Emma Jane Fletcher... the audience - including a panel of judges among others, lyricist Don Black, choreographer Arlene Phillips and impresario Harvey Goldsmith, gave the plucky vocalist a fine reception... The standard of talent and the overall production were right up there with the best in the show's five year history.'

Sharon Jaffa (London Jewish News) 1998:
'The eight finalists took their turn on the famous Palladium stage in front of a star-studded panel of judges which included Don Black, Harvey Goldsmith, Lord Levy, Michael Grade and Trevor Horn... Singer-songwriter Emma Jane Fletcher has a powerful voice... The last few years have seen a noticeable increase in both the competitors professionalism and prestige.'

Naomi Kanerick (Performer's senior campaign executive speaking to London Jewish News) 1998:
'The standard of talent was outstanding... As always it was tough whittling down the numbers to eight finalists but ultimately the decision lay with musical director, Robert Hyman, together with the director of the show Kerry Michael, who chose the acts according to the skill, talent, personality and potential star quality.'

Interview with The Diary Magazine:

Lisa Shaw (The Diary Magazine) 1999:
'Young, vivacious with a warm smile and a kind word, Emma is quietly a rising star... Emma's model looks turn heads wherever she goes and though blond and doe-eyed, she comes across as profound and intelligent. It is easy to talk to Emma and she is very down to earth. A great sense of humour and the ability to laugh at herself has made her a people person. As we speak, I glimpse a sincere, genuine person with a well-earned hint of pride.'
